It is native to Mexico and Central America and has been used for centuries for incense in religious or magical ceremonies: the Mayans of Mexico believe that when Copal is burned it turns into otherworldly tortillas that the deities eat.HOW TO USE Just hold a flame to the rim of the cup and once it is ignited work your way around the rest of the rim until the charcoal is gently glowing and continuing to spread its heat over the rest of the cup (this may take a minute or two). Carefully place the cup onto the included metal plate with the ceramic heat disc beneath – best burned on a heatproof plate, censer or smudge pot as the charcoal will become red hot during use.
